Rosacea Update 2020
Recent studies have reported that the incidence of rosacea related acne is increasing. This appears to be exacerbated by masks, increased alcohol consumption, perhaps increased stress and indulging in triggering foods, as well as non-compliance with appropriate skin care.
It was found that patients that did not use appropriate skin care products on a regular basis presented over 12 times higher rate of inflammatory acne Rosacea than those who routinely used such skin care products. This inflammatory type of rosacea is the most common rosacea type in acne patients.
Although predisposition to rosacea is generally genetically transmitted, it can occur independent of a family history of it. It is most common in those of English, Irish and Northern European heritage.
Our rosacea program is helping our patients maintain control. It is best to initially treat rosacea with either IPL or the Excel V™ laser, depending on presentation, and then to maintain results with the DBISC rosacea skin care regimen. Rosacea prone skin tends to be sensitive, so the right combination of ingredients is critical in supporting skin health in rosacea individuals.
Rosacea worsens over time and, as with all chronic conditions, it is best to treat it early, when it is easier to control. If you or someone you know flushes easily, tends to have a ruddy complexion, especially if it’s ruddy and acne-prone, they are likely to have Rosacea and should come in for a consultation.
